Brunch at John's Pie

If you want to try out something different, look for John's Pie! From homemade delicious pastry pie now expanding to brunch, lunch/dinner menu. The owner of the John's Pie was once my client and now he's kinda like my elder whom I respected so much due to his unlimited infused passion on his pastry business.

Many people in Kuching may have already known this place, but nevertheless here is a sharing on what I like on this cafe. John's Pie has started few years ago at Wisma Phoenix and now their have opened few branches in Kuching with mainly, Jalan Song branch as their headquarter. John's Pie has been featured in alot of local magazines and newspaper with it's surging popularity in town.

So, here I am trying out their brunch menu :)

It's pretty significant with their brown and white contrast restaurant name. Hence, it's quite visible when you pass by Shell and you'll see John's Pie.

Their cafe theme is mostly brown and wooden homey feel.

Once you are inside you will be greeted with warm welcomes :)

Delectable pies on the warmer display showcase.

Instead of kolok mee, laksa, or nasi lemak, here was me, trying out a different set of brunch menu. I ordered an Egg Benedict and a Caramel Latte.

Egg Benedict with steaky beef. The muffin was too hard for me but I like their poached egg. So classic and it was done with perfection. I heard that John specifically made the Hollandaise sauce himself and you can't find it anywhere or anything similar in Kuching elsewhere. So impressive.

The new expanded menu :) They serve pasta and mostly Italian food as well :)

The mixture of different types of wooden furniture was meant to bring back a natural feel yet maintaining an unique style that many will find cozy and comforting.

At John's Pie, they will serve your food to your table and the rest is self service. It's quite convenient ..you just need to treat it like your own house.

Overall, it's quite a calming and rejuvenating ambiance to hangout in the day and cozy and cuddly at night. The price range here is quite reasonable. If you haven't try any of their pies yet, it's recommended that you should eat it the first.

New in Town: Nuromen Cafe

First of all, thanks to Phoebe for extending the soft opening invites to me. This Nuromen Cafe was opened by my friend's brothers (The Ting's Brothers). The Grand Opening will be this Thursday, 1st October 2015.

Well, as you can guess, the name itself is a direct translate of Chinese words into English spelling: 牛肉面 (Gubak Mee). It's located at the heart of Kuching city, just opposite Sanga Japanese Restaurant.

Here are few of the sneak peaks!

Their concept of the cafe is modern and contemporary by using black and white color theme.

As you can see, on every tables installed an induction stove for their special beef broth soup with condiments of thinly sliced beef for you to stir in the pot of soup. The full menu will be revealed on the day of the Grand Opening.

Their food sampling of the night, Beef Ramen. The "Onsen" egg is really authentic and one of the best I've ever tasted! And the beef is definitely not local. LOL~

And another dish that I managed to sample is, Beef Rice Bowl. Just like the Taiwanese Braised Meat Rice. It's highly recommended by the owner :)

The owner mentioned that there will be decorations on the wall prior to the Grand Opening this Thursday.

They are using industrial lights and black color fans to bring out the contrast. The concrete cemented flooring totally bring out the industrial features and it's kind of a brand new experience to eat your "Gubak Mee" in such place.

The very cartoon-ish cow logo :D

It's selfie time!

Once again, thanks for having me! :)

So, overall its a very relaxed ambiance with ample of seating space, and comfort food served freshly. So far it's a pork free cafe, so it caters to our Muslim friends as well.

The Food Gallery @ Tun Jugah (Revamped Version)

Recently, I've been invited for a food tasting session at The Food Gallery @ Tun Jugah. According to the Food Court Manager, Sam, she said that the management was seeking for a new changes as an improvement to keep up with the IT savvy society and also continually drive traffic to The Food Gallery while provide fresh experience to the patrons there. Hence, the new face lift! I must say the experience was nostalgic :x

From the Popular Bookstore, you can easily spot the entrance of The Food Gallery. The wall was decorated with antique vintage looking enamel tin plates with. I think the designer wanted to bring out a retro style :D

The interior design gave me a mixed feeling of contemporary and homey style. The new addition of woods tables and chairs give off the nature-themed furnishing looks vibe.

There are few racks on showcase and we can found several antique vintage enamel tin mug with lids. Super awesome!

I like their light bulbs, super retro! I heard there are about 150-200 light bulbs hanging over inside the food gallery.

Below are the few dishes that I managed to capture for the food tasting session :)

The Nasi Lemak Stall has very nice and comfort food.
